Many parents and caregivers are concerned about how to deal with poo in reusable nappies. However, it's pretty simple, and there's no need to be afraid.
Pre-weaning poo
For babies who are exclusively breastfed or formula-fed, their poo is water-soluble, meaning you don't need to use any liners, as the poo will wash away in the laundry. Just pop the soiled nappy in the wash and follow your routine.
Weaning poo
Weaning poo is more solid, so you will need to use either a Biodegradable Bamboo Liner or a reusable fleece Stay-Dry Liner. These liners will catch the poo, making it easier to dispose of and minimizing the mess on the nappy. Place the soiled biodegradable liner in the bin or plop off any solids on the reusable fleece liner into the loo and wash with your nappies as usual.
How often do you wash reusable nappies
We recommend washing reusable nappies every 2-3 days.
Tips
- Use a short wash cycle to remove any poo from the nappy before washing.
- Wash your nappies in a hot wash (60°C) with detergent.
- Do not use fabric softener, as this can damage the nappies.
- Air dry your nappies whenever possible.
